Questions
What exactly is Pivot: IRL in Progress?
Pivot is a wellness platform designed for anyone who wants to shift their priority system to Life over Tech. It supports gentle behavioral change, encouraging you to look away from your screen and pivot back into meaningful real-life activities.
Is this app only for certain professions?
Absolutely not. Pivot is for everyone fighting the urge to put their device down. Whether you’re an executive, an artist, a student, or a parent—if you feel “always on,” Pivot is built to help you reclaim your presence.
Why is the focus on “Life over Tech”?
Most apps are designed to keep you scrolling. Pivot is designed to do the opposite. Our mission is to help you realize that your life happens in real life (IRL), and technology should be a tool that supports that life—not a distraction that replaces it.
How It Works: Mood & Challenges
How do the Daily Challenges work?
Pivot encourages you to reduce screen time through challenges that are matched to your current mood. We won’t suggest high-intensity tasks if you’re feeling low or overwhelmed. Instead, we match your goals with activities you actually enjoy, providing a gentle, personalized way to re-enter the IRL space safely.
What is a “Choice Point”?
A Choice Point is a research-backed, behavior-interrupting feature. It’s a brief, intentional pause created by the app that breaks an automatic scrolling loop, giving you the space needed to decide whether to put the phone down and pivot to something else.
How does Pivot ensure I feel “safe” entering the IRL space?
We recognize that the digital world can sometimes feel like a shield or a comfort zone. By matching challenges to your emotional state, Pivot ensures you never feel pressured or forced. It’s a supportive, gradual retraining of habits that respects where you are at any given moment.
Research & Methodology
Why is research into tech burnout so important?
Pivot’s research into tech burnout and healthy habits is the core justification for its features. By understanding the why behind digital addiction and the neurological loops we get stuck in, we’ve developed tools that help you change tech habits that lead to burnout into meaningful life experiences.
What is the “4,000 Weeks” model?
The average human life is only about 4,000 weeks long—a concept popularized by author Oliver Burkeman. If you spend several hours a day on a screen, you are effectively giving up years of your IRL life. Pivot helps you visualize this finite reality and gives you tools to reclaim those weeks for what truly matters.
